Homework: |
one problem set for each unit (for list of units, see web site); due as announced (in general, one week after we are done with the corresponding unit).
You will receive 50% credit for late homework.

Attendance: | Attendance and participation in class discussions is expected.

Project:
| You need to do a project
on a topic of your choice (selected after consultation with the
Instructor by Fri., Feb. 1), write a paper on it (first draft due by Fri., Mar. 29, final due by Fri., Apr. 26) and present it in class at the
end of the semester (Fri., May 3, 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.). This is not meant to be original work. You just
need to understand a certain subject described in an appropriate
textbook
and not covered in class, or in a research paper you happen to be interested in.

40% homework, 20% participation, 40% project. |
