Textbook: Physics - principles with applications, by D. Giancoli, 5th edition (at the UT Bookstore). The material to be covered can be found on the web site.
Attendance:Obligatory for labs & recitations, and expected in lectures.
Homework:(a) Graded: One problem set for each Chapter; to be submitted online; due as announced.
(b) Assigned but not collected or graded: Some problems will be worked out in class. You are expected to work out the rest of the problems on your own, and at the recitations.
A list of all assigned problems is available on the web site.
Tests:Fri., Sept. 12, Fri., Oct. 10, and Fri., Nov. 7; in class, closed book and no notes allowed; bring a non-programmable calculator. No make-up tests will be given. If you miss a test for a legitimate reason that you have discussed with the Instructor before the test, your score will be adjusted at the end of the semester depending on your overall performance in class.
Final:Thu., Dec. 4 (12:30 - 2:30 pm), comprehensive, in class, closed book and no notes allowed; bring a non-programmable calculator.
Grade: 15% lab (you must pass it to pass the course); 15% homework; 15% each of the three tests; 25% final.
